T-50 Exquisite Vintage White Linen Towel

Figural Appenzell Lace -- A Lovely Lady

7" diameter center medallion

18" by 28", this towel combines the subtle texture of fine white linen with pale blue hand finishing.

Lengthwise edges are selvege; both ends are scalloped and finished with 3/4" lace. This type of lace, sometimes known as mosaic, is created by making a pattern of small openings in the fabric. Each opening is then finished by hand, adding a crisp effect and preventing fraying.

A lace and embroidered design decorates the front. Flowers and curly-ques frame a 7" diameter central medallion. Garlands and geometric mosaic patterns extend to either side.

The Appenzell figural lace medallion shows a lovely lady carrying a flower basket and admiring one special rose. She wears an elaborate wide-brimmed hat and gown with ruffles and embroidery. The figure stands out against a honeycomb-textured drawnwork lace background.

Padded satin stitch adds a three-dimensional effect to petals, leaves and outlines. Tiny open-eyelet flower-centers add another lacy touch. Madeira seed dots texturize open areas.

Laundering has caused a little fuzziness along the scallops. This towel is in very good condition (gently used, no spots, stains or damage); washed, ironed and ready for your home.
